Dr. Chad Ferguson is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He completed his foot and ankle fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and his orthopaedic surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center, a Level I trauma center. Trauma has remained a continuous part of his practice since, and he manages high-acuity orthopaedic injuries today.
Since 2018 he has served as an orthopaedic surgeon with the Alaska Native and Tribal Health Consortium, a tertiary-care tribal health system covering remote and roadless communities across Alaska, where fixed-wing and rotor-wing transport is a routine part of patient triage and definitive care planning. He has worked the full arc of remote patient assessment: field-level evaluation, acuity determination, decisions about transport mode and level of care, and receipt of transported patients at the tertiary center. That experience gives him direct, firsthand judgment on transport acuity, level-of-care determination, and clinical necessity, allowing him to evaluate a transport record against what the clinical picture actually justified rather than against documentation alone.
Dr. Ferguson brings an operator’s understanding of the business of medicine to that clinical judgment. He practiced in private orthopaedic group practice in Knoxville, Tennessee before moving to Alaska, and is founder and partner of an orthopaedic medical device company developing shape-memory implant technology, on which he is a named inventor.
He consults to Ascendant Advisory Group, a boutique investment banking and advisory firm serving small and middle-market healthcare and technology companies, on its healthcare engagements. That work spans clinical and operational due diligence for M&A transactions and advising physician owners on transaction readiness, practice structure, valuation drivers, and post-transaction integration.
He also maintains an independent medical-legal practice as an orthopaedic expert witness and independent medical examiner, providing written reports, affidavits, and testimony on standard of care, causation, and permanent injury for plaintiff and defense counsel, workers’ compensation carriers, and insurers. His determinations are built to withstand scrutiny.
